Capri rewards visitors who plan ahead. The island is small, roughly five square kilometers, but it packs in sea caves, clifftop villages, luxury boutiques, and some of the most photographed coastline in the Mediterranean. A single day is tight, but absolutely manageable if you know where to focus your time and how you arrive matters just as much as where you go.
Start on the Water Before the Crowds Do

Once you dock at Marina Grande, the funicular carries you up to Capri Town in about four minutes. The main piazza is small, surrounded by cafes and designer shops, and easy to cover on foot. For the best panoramic view on the island, walk or take a short taxi ride to the Villa San Michele in Anacapri, the hilltop village reachable by bus or open-air taxi from Capri Town. The garden terrace there looks out over the Gulf of Naples with Vesuvius visible on clear days.
Anacapri moves at a slower pace than Capri Town and feels noticeably less crowded through the afternoon. The chairlift from Anacapri to Monte Solaro, the island’s highest point at 589 meters, takes about twelve minutes and delivers views that stretch across to the Amalfi Coast on one side and Ischia on the other. It runs until late afternoon and is one of the most underrated experiences on the island.
